Objective: This study examined the effects of Action observation training on chronic stroke patients¡¯ recovery of upper extremity function, activity of daily living.
Method: Twenty nine chronic stroke patients were allocated randomly and equally to a experimental group and a control group. They received physical, electro therapies. The experimental group received training with the video clip action observation and the control group received training with the captured picture action observation. Training was applied thirty minutes each time, five times per week, for 4 weeks. Manual function test (MFT), Grip strength test, Wolf motor function test (WMFT), Fugl Meyer assessment of upper extremity (FMUE), and Korean version of modified barthel index (K-MBI) were used as measurement tools.
Results: The video clip action observation training group saw significant improvements in MFT,Grip strength test, WMFT, FMUE and MBI relative to the captured picture action observation group (p<.05). Regarding comparison within each group, the VCAO group¡¯s and CPAO group's MFT, Grip strength test, WMFT, FMUE and MBI saw statistically significant improvement(p<.001).
Conclusion: The video clip action training is considered more efficient than captured picture action observation training to improve chronic stroke patient's Upper extremity function and Activity of daily living.
